First Hug

Olivia was hugged and held today for the very first time in her life. At only 25 days, she is now stable enough medically to be "kangaroo" held. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, this is referred to as "Kangaroo Care". Studies have found that preemies held skin to skin by mom and dad gain weight quicker, have better lung development, and thrive! It was an emotional moment for Jon, nurse Erin, and I. Olivia's oxygen saturations levels have been between 85-90%, and when we put her on my chest, they rose to 97% and her oxygen had to be turned down twice. Olivia is a little miracle, and we are blessed!

~Olivia~

Sweet little Olivia came into our great big world on February 25th, following her older brother (by just minutes), Otis, and joining older brothers Shon and Cory. She weighed 1# 9 oz. She and Otis were born at 24 weeks gestation-16 weeks premature. Olivia has had a tough fight so far in her short life, but she is doing very well, much better than the medical staff at the hospital has expected. Little Otis was welcomed into heaven on Friday February 13th. Our family has been blessed again, and we are excited to be given this opportunity to love her and give her the human touch that she so desperately needs in her ongoing battle of survival.

It is expected that if all continues to go so well, that Olivia will be able to come home in 12 weeks. She is currently on a ventilator to help her breathe, but she can breathe on her own some, so the neonatologists feel that she needs to continue with the vent so that her little body can concentrate on growing in other areas. She is no longer on IV fluids for nourishment, and has a feeding tube in place. Olivia is on full formula feedings, and is doing very well with them! The medical staff is very excited about this milestone.

We ask for your prayers for Olivia and our family. Please pray for Olivia's continued growth and health. Please pray for our family during this time of transition.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
