A rare weather event happened today in Castle Rock, and the Martin family (minus Jon - he was a the Police Academy) got to experience the excitement of it all. It was really amazing and fun to watch the tornado form...until we could see the debris that the tornado was picking up in it's path. We quickly went to our neighbors' basement - all of us -3 adults, 8 children, 1 dog, 1 guinea pig, 1 cat, and 2 rabbits!:) Thank goodness we got the "all clear" within about 15 minutes-
What a circus!!!
Maggie said, "Look there's a funnel cloud!"We responded, "No there's not, we don't have tornadoes in Castle Rock", but...
we were wrong!
Look closely at the ridgeline, and you can see that the funnel cloud has touched down and is now a tornado.

The tornado has now picked up enough debris that the entire cone is visible.
The picture does not do justice to what we were able to see. We could see large pieces of debris in the sky around the base of the tornado. It was a little eery, as there was absolutely no wind, just complete stillness. At this point we all headed to the basement. Thankfully, at this time, there are no reported injuries.
